In 2003, Rainbow Connection Network founder Dean Walton "met" University of Wyoming student Margo Browall. Margo, a graduate social work student was coordinating for the Rainbow Resource Center at the university and was assisting the RCN in deciding what new titles to add to the center.
In the fall of that year, Margo died suddenly following surgery. Although they had never met in person, Dean felt the loss of this vibrant spirit deeply. He approached the board of the Rainbow Connection Network, determined to find a way to commemorate the drive and positive energy which has been lost so tragically. In an email, Margo had identified to Dean that she felt assisting LGBT youth was her "mission". so, the RCN decided to help her continue her mission by distributing books and other media specifically in her name. Late in 2003, we donated the book "Am I Blue?" to every junior high and high school in the state of Wyoming. We continue to attempt to identify similar needs and donate books in her memory.
Sirius OutQ radio host Romaine Patterson has been a tremendous help, donating countless books for us to redistribute. We are grateful for her generosity.
